You can always view your product key in the Customer Portal (Link opens in a new window). If you have a creator licence (the product key begins with "TC"), the same key activates both Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep Builder.
If you are using Tableau Desktop or Tableau Prep Builder without Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server with login-based licence management, you need your product key to activate Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep Builder after the installation process is finished. Tableau Cloud customers and new Tableau Server customers with LBLM enabled, are not issued Tableau Desktop or Tableau Prep Builder keys.
If you are a Tableau Cloud customer or LBLM (Login-based licence management) enabled Tableau Server customer, you do not need to manage Tableau Desktop or Tableau Prep Builder product keys.
